Carroll Davis was an outstanding teacher in HS, I don't understand why there are not more comments from the many students he came in contact with over his tenure with the HRVHS family. He was an amazing educator that impacted hundreds of pupils in the Hood River Valley community. When you leave HS you think your teachers live on forever, not realizing they are human, age with time and pass on. Carroll Davis lives on, and I will always visualize him as a teacher, at Hood River Valley High, with his bow tie, wandering the halls talking to students, helping us to become future parents, leaders, and teachers. Thank you Carroll, I hope to see you again!

I was in HR for Christmas this weekend and wanted to go for a run with my dog. We went behind the HRVHS and ran the 'Carroll Davis' trail. What a wonderful legacy he left! MP

I spent yesterday wishing I could attend the memorial for Carroll, meet his friends, and hear their stories. Thanks to those that posted photos of Carroll in his younger days, long before I met him. I will sorely miss our phone conversations, and the hospitality he and Lorraine showed on my yearly trips through Hood River as I traveled from my home in Alaska to family in Washington and California. I really only knew him for the last four or five years, when we met as my dad -- his old friend from college -- was dying in 2010. We quickly formed a bond that has now been broken much too soon. Goodbye, my friend.

I took this while showing Carroll and Lorraine the wonders of my new iPhone while we ate at the Chinese restaurant near their house. Carroll was one of my Dad's best friends, and after my Dad's passing in 2010, Carroll and I became good friends, with many wonderful philosophical and scientific discussions. I miss him greatly. He passed too soon, and this earth is a little poorer, missing one of her most attentive sons.

Carroll was an invigorating teaching colleague, a hiking friend with a head full of Latin names for flowers, a ski patrol protector of the beginning skier, a classical-music-with-lunch host in his Biology lab, a cheerleader for Ideas, a reflective skeptic with reverence for the act of thinking. Unique in his community, he can be remembered everywhere: in the landscaping and track at the high school, in the Columbia Gorge Scenic Area, on the mountain trails he loved, and wherever residents gather for thoughtful disagreement and debate. Lucky are we whose paths he crossed.

I met your father only once, through his involvement with the Alpinee Fund Legacy. Even though our interaction was brief, I immediately recognized that he was a man of substance. I enjoyed his thoughtful and well written letters to the HR News. He will be missed in our town of Hood River.

Carroll was the first jogger I ever saw. I remember watching him running around the old HR high school track during his lunch break in 1969. Pre Nike, this seemed like such an odd thing to do. Now that I'm a runner myself, I see him as a man ahead of his time. God bless him. He was an inspiration.

Bob, so sorry to hear about your dad. He and I had a lot of fun planning races in the 70's and 80's. He was an excellent teacher and a good role model for anyone working with teenagers. He always amazed me with everything he accomplished. My prayers are with you and your family.

Carroll was a good friend, my colleague and he was brave enough to attend my faculty aerobics classes after teaching a full day! I remember him most for his passion in health and fitness, biology, teaching and learning. He was a tireless man who shared his knowledge every time we sat down for a visit. I worked with him from '76-'80 then '86-present....I loved seeing him in the classroom substituting and sharing his knowledge. Thanks for your friendship you will be sorely missed.

Carroll Davis was a passionate teacher of life sciences. He is the unsung Carroll who originated the first sections of the Indian Creek Trail. He was an accomplished mountaineer, working search and rescue and teaching mountaineering classes for decades. He was a bird-watcher, and couldn't take a hike without binoculars, bird book, and wildflower book. He volunteered for dozens of organizations, keeping careful notes in his neat handwriting. He loved to laugh and had a catalogue of jokes - clean ones - categorized in his scientific way. I used to kid him that his pick-up truck was covered with bumper stickers for "lost causes." An incredible man, Davis was. The earth lost one of its most ardent supporters. You changed my life for the better, Davis. Thanks you.

Condolences to the family of Carroll Davis. It was an honor to serve with Carroll at HRVHS since its inception in 1970. The community has lost a man who dedicated his life to making this community a better place, through his teaching and service in many community improvements. He will be missed.

I never had Mr Davis as a teacher, but had the opportunity on may occasions to just sit and chat with him on many topics. He was a very wise and kind man that always took the time to really care about others. He will be missed. No one could pull off a bow tie like Mr Davis. My prayers are with his family.
